Welcome to the home of the
1st Maryland Cavalry Battalion
We are currently in winter quarters
Our next event is our Battalion meeting: January 22, 2012
This web site is an introduction for those folks that we have met and would like to learn more about our unit and as a guide to those folks who are perspective members.
The 1st Maryland Cavalry Battalion CSA is a non-profit, family friendly, living history, educational organization whose purpose is to educate its members and the public about the Confederate Civil War Cavalry.
The goals of this organization are simple:
We strive to effectively maintain an accurate visual impression of the 1st Maryland Cavalryman with our uniforms, flags and equipment.
We strive to effectively demonstrate the tactics and maneuvers untilized by the 1st Maryland Cavalry.
Safety is always the paramount consideration for every member.
Our standards are easy:
Look like the 1st Maryland Cavalry looked
Act as a southern people would act
Be respectful to all members, and the public
1st Maryland Cavalry Battalion features the following companies:
Company A and H: These companies portray cavalry that has dismounted from their horses and fights on foot.
Company E: This company protrays cavalry that stays mounted and fights on their horses.
Civilian: These folds portray the many support people that followed the camp, including cooks and helpers, blacksmith, teamsters, family members, scouts, and medical personnel.
1 Maryland Cavalry Battalion CSA participates in 8-10 reenactments and living history events per year. Our camp has a military look but is compromised with more civilians and canvas tents than would have been found during a campaign or cavalry raid.
Like many reenactment groups we feel the positives of family participation, teaching young people about history and the confidence they have from talking to others about what we do, far outweigh the negative of not being absolutely period correct. Everyone in camp MUST maintain our standard with regards to dress and behavior, as outlined in our by-laws and military and civilian standards of our unit.
We are members of the Valley Division and covered under the Division's group insurance plan, the payment is covered in your dues.
1st Maryland Cavalry Battalion CSA is currently recruiting for military and civilian members
